Where the crew lives

The Kvandal data centre sits on the Skoglund industrial area near Bjerkvik, north of Narvik town. Bjerkvik is the closest village, and Narvik town centre is about 16 minutes away by car. The site has no point of its own on open maps, so the drive times in the list below are estimated with OpenStreetMap from Bjerkvik, without traffic, rush hour or winter conditions. Allow a few extra minutes to the gate.

Most crews will live in Narvik or in Bjerkvik. Narvik has the most homes, shops, gyms and evening life, and it is the natural base for crews staying a long time. Bjerkvik gives the shortest commute. Bogen i Ofoten, about 27 minutes away, and Gratangen, about 37 minutes away, are options when little is available closer.

Narvik lies north of the Arctic Circle. In winter the days are short and the roads are often icy, so a short and simple commute matters more here than in most places. We weigh winter driving, parking and room to dry workwear when we assess the homes.

A hotel in Narvik works for a few nights. A crew staying for months needs more than a hotel room: a bedroom of their own, a kitchen to cook in and quiet after the shift. We search and map furnished apartments from the site address and the length of your stay.

How it works

  1. Send us what you need

Fill in the form with head count, start date and how long the crew will work at Kvandal. The project is already selected.

  2. We search and map the options

We look for homes in Bjerkvik, Narvik and the villages around, based on your shifts, the number of work vans and the winter drive to Skoglund.

  3. You hear from us within 48 hours

You hear from us within 48 hours with how we will house your crew. From then on you have one contact person and one invoice for all the homes.

Hotel, site cabins or apartments in Narvik?

Many crews at Kvandal work through a full winter north of the Arctic Circle, where rest and a normal routine after the shift matter. The articles below compare site cabins with housing and explain what Norwegian rules require when an employer provides accommodation.

Questions & answers

What companies ask.

Should the crew live in Narvik or in Bjerkvik?

Bjerkvik is the shortest drive to the site, while Narvik has the most homes and the most to do after work. Narvik town centre is about 16 minutes from Bjerkvik by car, estimated with OpenStreetMap without traffic, so many crews split between the two.

How do you house crews on round-the-clock shifts?

We split the crew across the homes based on the shift plan, so day and night shifts never share a bedroom. Everyone has their own bedroom, which matters in the polar night, when sleep patterns are already under strain.

Is there parking for work vans?

We state the parking for each home before you decide, including space for vans.

Where is workwear washed and dried?

Workwear is washed and dried at home in each apartment. Wet winter gear needs room to dry indoors, and we take that into account when we choose homes for the crew.

What if the crew grows, shrinks or stays longer?

We look for more homes in the same area when the crew grows. If the work runs longer, we ask the landlords to extend the leases and look for new homes where needed. A lease is signed for each home, with a notice period matched to the length of the project.

Which airport do crews fly into?

The closest airport is Harstad/Narvik Airport Evenes, about 43 minutes by car from Bjerkvik, estimated with OpenStreetMap without traffic. We factor in the drive to Evenes when the crew rotates often.
